A very rare Masonic money box, 19th century. Of column form with a fluted shaft and applied metal money slot above a central square section painted to all four sides with masonic symbols including a square, compass, triangle and cartouche to the front depicting a landscape enclosed by an inscription reading ‘Mount Lebanon Lodge No73 1760’, supported on a stepped plinth of square form with coin container incorporated beneath. This particular example is very unusual and a rare example to be found at auction. 14.2 in (36 cm) height, 6.4 in (16.3 cm) width. Condition report: The plain section above the masonic symbols may have had metal inscribed plaques attached at some point and there is some wear throughout and restoration required to various elements as shown in the images provided. The internal metalwork underneath is definitely added later, probably applied to reinforced the internal structure. No key included. This is to some degree expected taking into account the age and regular functionality of the object.
