David JAMES (1853-1904) Waves breaking on the Cornish Coast Oil on canvas Signed 23 x 38cm
This oil has two patches near the edge of the canvas and a third area of what may be varnish possibly used to stabilise. Under UV light there is no indication of overpainting and none has been seen with the naked eye. It presents as being in excellent, uncleaned, stable condition. The impasto is uncompramised. The work is unlined and without any significant cracking or shrinkage. The canvas is not perfectly flat, but almost.
