EARLY NINETEENTH CENTURY MAHOGANY PORTABLE WRITING SLOPE, of typical form with pin-lock side drawer, the interior with later gilt tooled green leather lined slope, ebonised pen tray, brass stay, in line with left hinge and associated square ink bottle, originally a pair, the underside of the slope bearing an oval paper label for J H FARTHING, CORNHILL, LONDON, ‘Portable Writing Desk’, 6 ¼” (15.9cm) high, 20” x 9 ¾” (50.9cm x 24.7cm)
C/R- ink bottle lacking cover, the top with split, wear, repair to the front left corner and two brass studs visible to the back? One board to the base is loose, lacks escutcheon, the lower section missing to the facing piece to the front of the lock, possibly forced at some time?
