John Russell of Falkirk; A George III mahogany-cased 8-day longcase clock, the one-piece silvered broken arch Roman & Arabic dial with a moon phase dial with painted detail, the hood with swan neck pediment and fluted pilasters, the case with blind fret detail above arched trunk the plinth with a moulded foot. 36 cm dial, 54 cm wide x 26 cm deep x 228 cm overall height. John Russell was the most famous of Falkirk's clockmakers. He was born in 1745 in Denny or Dennyloanhead and was originally a blacksmith or Wright. By 1770 he had become a clockmaker in Falkirk. IN 1780 he was elected as a Stentmaster to represent the town's watch and clockmakers.
