Super Star Lot: Stanley Pettigrew (Irish, 1927-2022). An original Stanley Pettigrew oil in board painting. Features a dramatic rocky coastline with lighthouse. Rendered in board sweeping brushstrokes in soft tones of blue and lilac. Signed lower left. Housed in a deepwood and linen frame with David Hendrick's Gallery sticker to verso. A confident well achieved painting. Pettigrew's work sells very well at auction with works fetching €1,000 plus at Whyte's.

Pettigrew was born in the Andes of Chile. He returned to Ireland with his family in 1930. Like Paul Henry, he was attracted to the cloud formations and reflective water of Sligos seascape. He worked as a curator in Newcastle, giving him the opportunity to paint with Tom Carr. He lived in Wicklow from 1957, exhibiting at the Wicklow Painters Gallery and the Royal Hibernian Academy. Pettigrew died in Limerick on 15 September 2022, aged 95.
