Rare 1960s RAF Cold Weather Parka (Parka Outer 1951 Pattern) issued to RAF personnel for wearing in extremely cold temperatures. Made from a grey ventile material, "Flash" branded zip to front, double flap which buttons over the zip, angled flapped pocket to left chest, 2 hip pockets, integral waist belt with metal buckle, fur trimmed hood with wire brim, cream coloured blanket lining between the outer fabric and stitched to the inner lining, it is a large size. All labels have been removed, 2 epaulette buttons are missing, some minor areas of wear and staining, generally very fine.
The coat was used by Warrant Officer Dennis Rodney Gould during a 1971 deployment to RAF Goose Bay in Canada servicing Vulcan bombers. Sold with original photo of Vulcan being serviced on the pan (wearing parkas) and a photo of W.O. Gould preparing to undergo aircraft escape from ditching training. With further copied photos of Vulcans on the pan at Goose Bay (2), Gould and 2 others wearing Parkas outside Hudson's Bay Company shop and newspaper article, he joined the RAF in 1942 and served for 40 years.
