A German Nazi Luftwaffe (2nd Model) Dagger. The dagger has a maker's mark of Ernst Pack of Solingen - The ricasso bears Pack’s etched logo which reads ERNST PACK & SOHNE / M.B.H. / WAFFENDABRIK / SOLINGEN with the additional mark SIEGFRIED WAFFFEN surrounding the logo, using the S in “Siegfried” to join the two words above and below the logo. The dagger is truly in EXCELLENT condition and the blade remains in bright, shiny condition with an excellent etched logo. The blade is so brilliant that it was almost impossible to take any photos without the lights, or objects in the room reflecting in the blade. The aluminium fittings show excellent, sharp detail, both in the decorative swastika on the pommel cap and in the Luftwaffe Eagle on the cross guard. The celluloid grip has a gorgeous deep butterscotch colour to it and retains all of the original wire wrapping. The grip is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or shrinkage. The pebble grain scabbard is in excellent condition as well, with a nice mellow pewter colour. The raised oak leaf embellishment at the end of the scabbard and the hanger mounts are crisp and sharp, with nice contrast and detail. The original suspension rings are in place, although the hangers although original hangers may not be correct. PROVENANCE: This dagger was one of two given to the vendor, as a paper boy in 1972, when the then shop keeper retired. He served during WW2 - and he brought back two daggers as war prizes! 43cm total length.
