George III silver verge pocket watch, by G Duffin, London, circa 1770, repousse outer case decorated with Romanesque figures (worn), the inner case stipple engraved with a crowned dog and indistinct date 179*, white enamelled dial, the movement signed on a pierced and engraved back plate, with scroll filigree pillars, London hallmarks indistinct, 49mm diameter; also a George III tortoiseshell verge pocket watch, the outer case with fern leaf and butterfly reverse decoration, stud detailing (with losses), white enamelled dial, the movement signed 'William Tutinge, Newmarket', 47mm diameter (2)

More Information

Duffin: Outer case is worn and holed. Chips to the enamelled dial at 6 o'clock and also with hair cracks. The watch is loose within its outer case. Visible repairs around the stem and upper case. The watch does not tick when wound.
Tutinge: Losses to the tortoiseshell on the outer case. Splits and wear. The dial has hair cracks running from the centre to 12 o'clock and 7 o'clock. Wear to the gilt on the inner case. A probable repair where the stem joins the inner case. The watch currently ticks when wound.
