A Victorian diamond necklace, designed as a diamond set starburst brooch pendant, with central old cut diamond measuring 5.04mm x 5.24mm, set to a twelve-point white metal surround with old cut diamonds throughout, detachable brooch fittings and pendant loop to reverse, 40mm wide, set to a scrolling necklace with old cut diamonds set throughout, upon a gold coloured curb link chain with tongue and box snap clasp fastening, 36.8cm long, weight 20.4gms, complete with associated box
No maker's marks to brooch pendant or necklace.
No obvious signs of repair or replacement to the pendant/brooch mount or fittings. All stones to pendant are present. There is a large chip to the central diamond on the girdle, and general scratching and wear commensurate with age and use. Several of the other stones show small chips, nibbles and abrasions, as well as general scratching and wear. Minor to moderate wear to the claws around the diamonds of the pendant. Settings show scratching and wear commensurate with age and use, but no signs of splitting, major damage or repair. Some minor denting/misshaping to the pendant loop. Brooch fittings to pendant are in working order, detaching and re-attaching with ease.
No obvious signs of repair or replacement to the front section of the necklace. The chain and clasp appear to be later replacements. All stones to the necklace front are present. Several of the stones show small to medium fractures/chips, nobbles and abrasion, as well as general scratching and wear. Moderate wear to the claw settings around the diamonds on the necklace front. Settings, chain and clasp show scratching and wear commensurate with age and use, but no signs of splitting, major damage or repair. Clasp in working order. Overall length of necklace is 36.8cm. Front section is 12.8cm wide, drop minus pendant is 28mm, drop including pendant is 65mm.
Accurate colour/clarity grades for all diamonds cannot be provided due to the settings of the piece.
The central diamond of the pendant shows an approximate clarity of SI. Approximate colour K/L. Clarity of the surrounding stones of the pendant vary, but none are lower then SI. When viewed face up, the larger diamonds punctuating the star points appear white and sparkly, however the smaller stones vary more, with some showing a draw of colour and appearing slightly dull. Diamonds to necklace front vary, ranging from P upwards. When viewed face up, the diamonds appear white and sparkly.
