ENGRAVED SILVER 1893 EDINBURGH POST OFFICE LONG SERVICE MEDAL, ETC.: May 1893 hallmarked silver medal designed like a Maltese Cross surmounted by a crown and engraved A.S.W. in the central circle on the obverse; it is also engraved on the reverse; TO A.S. WILSON with a Sum of Money; A TOKEN OF ESTEEM, G.P.O. EDINR., N[orth]. B[ritain]., MAY 1893. It is not certain how long Mr. Wilson had worked for the P.O. or in what department, but it is quite likely that he completed at least 40 years of service. [Acquired by our vendor in an Edinburgh antique shop in 1976.] Plus 1937 scroll (vellum? - with red embossed G.P.O. P.M.G. oval device at top) with fancy printed frame acknowledging the 41 years P.O. service of "Mr. G[eorge]. D[avid]. Breed", accompanied by Breed's 1895 entry ticket to the "CIRCULATION OFFICE, G.P.O.", his 1921 certificate of 1921 membership of the P.O. Orphans etc. Institution, and his 1937 age certificate.
