WAR OF THE AUSTRIAN SUCCESSION - BELGIUM - "ARM: DE FLANDRE" & "CAMP SUR SAMBRE" MARKS; 29 Aug. 1746 EL (stains and fragile with edge wear) from "Camp de Villers" to Auxerre charged "13 [sols]" (via Paris) with a mainly fine "ARMEE FLANDRE" on the front. The contents concern some men who have been taken prisoner and some others who are believed to have been killed; full translation would prove rewarding. Plus very fine 1754 (filing note) E charged "14 [sols]" to Mercatel with a mainly very fine rare red "CAMP SUR SAMBRE" (French army manoeuvres after the peace of 1748) nicely placed on the front; the letter was apparently an order for a uniform etc. (2 covers)Cross Reference: MILITARY, BELGIAN COLONIES, FRANCE
