COLOGNE/ PERFUME SHOP WINDOW DISPLAY BOTTLE. 18.5ins tall. Giant lime green uranium coloured glass, original paper label for 4711 cologne. Company was founded 1792 by merchant Wilhelm Mu¨lhens (1762-1841) claiming the secret formula was a wedding gift and set up a small factory at Cologne’s ‘Glockengasse’, still there at number 4711! Their bottles often confused with those of Johann Maria Farina who were in dispute with Mu¨lhen’s family over the name ‘Farina’ and ‘Eau de Cologne’ for most of the 19th century. Worlds Fair medals on label date from 1872-1880. Very rare. NR
