New Zealand. 1845 (Oct 2) Entire letter from Mai nui O Mata near Wellington to England, 4d local postage paid with red boxed "PAID AT / WELLINGTON", a fine "SHIP LETTER / BRIGHTON" (S.7) in black. The letter includes mention of the fight at the Bay of Islands and subsequent building of fortifications and a stockade at Hutt, the arrival of soldiers and three men of war. Light file fold, otherwise fine, unusual and scarce from New Zealand. Photo on Page 66.
