WW1 Military Cross reverse engraved A/Major John Sims Woolley RGA June 1st 1917, 1899 QSA 3 clasps Relief of Mafeking, OFS, Transvaal re-named in capitals to 13478 Tpr J.S. Woolley 73rd Coy I.Y., 1914-15 Star to Lieut J.S. Woolley L.Gds, BWM and Victory Medal to Major J.S. Woolley nearly extremely fine or better, swing mounted as worn although MC is detached from ribbon, in period glass display case with matching set of swing mounted miniatures.
His MC was announced in the London Gazette dated 1st January 1918. With copied QSA rolls, MIC, LG and Army List, on the QSA rolls he is shown as entitled to clasps Cape Colony, Transvaal and South Africa 1901 serving with 73rd Coy IY (2 numbers as 13478 and 13485), appointed 2nd Lieut 29/9/14 from Special Reserve, landed France with 1st Life Guards 30/11/14, promoted Lieut 9/5/15, T/Capt 12/1/16 while commanding a Section of Divisional Ammunition Column, Capt 12/6/16 with RGA, later A/Maj, address on MIC Caerleon, Monmouthshire. Sold on behalf of the family, never before on the market. (See photo) (½B)
