A VERY LARGE AND FINELY EMBROIDERED JAPANESE TAPESTRY WALL HANGING. Meiji period (1868-1912). Finely embroidered with silk, gold thread and Deer fur. Depicting two Kirin above crashing seas made of deer fur. Above them are a pair of three-claw Dragons amongst the clouds Measures - 202 x 193cm. Provenance: Originally gifted to Hong Kong Mill owners in the 19th century and brought to the UK in the late 19th century. Inherited by Lady Karen Watson of Richmond.

Condition: General light wear to include various areas of thread work loss to panel mainly around the edges of the panel. Some gold thread work missing and a couple of areas of rope embroidery loose. Backing fabric coming loose at one point at the bottom. Structurally the panel is intact.
