A group of four needlework samplers by Mary Sambrook The first worked with the alphabet, a cottage and trees, dated September 1985, 32cm x 28cm, the second with horizontal bands of flowers and acorns and the verse 'Let her who cares for needlework and wishes to perform the same, learn thoroughly and never shirk, and she'll obtain both praise and fame', dated 1985, 81cm x 23cm, the third worked with alphabets and a verse 'Virtue is the chiefest beauty . . .', dated April 1985, 45cm x 45cm, the fourth with alpha-numerics, flora and fauna, dated 1983, 21cm x 30cm.
