1971 Jaguar XJ Series 1

More Information

The Jaguar XJ6 was introduced in September 1968 and continued to 1973. Power-assisted steering and leather upholstery were standard on the 2.8 L De Luxe and 4.2 L models and air conditioning was offered as an optional extra on the 4.2 L. Daimler versions were launched in October 1969, in a series of television advertisements featuring Sir William Lyons. In these spots, he referred to the car as "the finest Jaguar ever". An unusual feature, inherited from the Mark X and S-Type saloons, was the provision of twin fuel tanks, positioned on each side of the boot, and filled using two separately lockable filler caps. In March 1970 it was announced that the automatic transmission would be uprated to the Borg-Warner Model 12 unit. The new transmission now had three different forward positions accessed via the selector lever. Around this time minor changes were made as well, such as moving the rear reflectors from beside to below the rear lights; on the interior the chrome gauge bezels were changed for black ones, to cut down on distracting reflections. In 1972 the option of a long-wheelbase version, providing a 4" increase in leg room for passengers in the back, became available. 78,973 Jaguar XJ6s were produced.

The vendor states that this is a totally stunning Series 1 Jaguar XJ6, and it has had one family owner since new. It is presented in the beautiful colour combination of Pale Blue with a Light Grey Leather interior, with the correct perforated leather. It is a low mileage, original car. The automatics always seem to be in better condition than the manuals as they have not been driven hard or raced. Everything is working as it should, it drives superbly well. The kick down is spot on, as is the whole car. Cars in this condition are few and far between.

Delivered new to Johannesburg South Africa, we all know how dry and rust free these finds are, this coupled with one family owner makes this car an outstanding proposition. Blemish free, rust free and unmolested this is a fabulous original Series One. The car has just arrived in the U.K and will be sold with new MOT ready for immediate enjoyment.
