Pulley/guide wheel from the ill fated R38 airship which was built at Howden, East Yorkshire and exploded mid-flight crashing into the River Humber on 24th August 1921, it was on its fourth test flight when it crashed having been bought by the US military. It broke up in flight and then exploded as it fell.
This was salvaged by the vendor’s grandfather who lived on Hessle Road Hull at the time of the crash. This is believed to be a pulley/guide wheel for a control cable for the rudder on the R38.
