£130
Anglo-Saxon / Viking imitation Edward the Confessor Penny in the style of the Hammer Cross but without the hammers; nominally Wulfnod of London, 1.19g, chipped and cracked GF with deposit and scratches, a "shield boss"-like peg through the centre and the reverse ex-gilt. Evidently used as a piece of jewellery; probably a base core, plated forgery to begin with. Found Northamptonshire, early 1990s.
