NOUMEA COVER TO FRANCE WITH TRIANGULAR STAMP-SHORTAGE MARKS + LATER SHORTAGE(?) COVER; 24 June 1876 stampless env. (some creasing & flap lost) to Paris (blue crayon - Noumea P.O.? - "Brindisi" on the front) with two fine to very fine large black triangular framed "P.D/AFFRANCHI/EN NUMERAIRE/FAUTE DE/TIMBRES COLONIAUX/SCE DES POSTES NELLE CALEDIE" marks upside down on the front along with matching 2-ring Noumea cds and boxed "PD"; plus 15 May 1877 E (part contents; from a Missionary?) to Marne with a 2-ring Noumea cds (part off edge) and matching v. fine "T" in triangle on the front, beside the superb h.s. "7" (decimes). It seems that the stamp shortages continued and not everyone chose to risk prepayment without stamps.
