A PAIR OF MINIATURE PATTENS, 19TH CENTURY
Each wooden foot-shaped platform raised on a circular iron base
(2)
Women's shoes in the 19th century were fragile, so in order to protect them from the dirt and slush when walking outdoors wooden overshoes were worn. Used in Europe from the Middle Ages until the invention of rubber galoshes, they consisted of a wooden platform on a metal base. The wearer's shoes were attached by leather or cloth bands
