Approximately 180 standard size Northumberland and Durham area postcards by Robert Johnston and Son of Gateshead and Newcastle from the highly sought-after Monarch Series. This lot has cards numbered between No 1 and 979 and there are views of bridges, castles, rocks etc with some of the towns and villages including Gateshead, Jarrow, Newcastle, South and North Shields. Nearly all are real photographic. There are many fabulous street scenes and three railway stations (two are printed) from a lifetime collection. One card has a tear, another a big stain and a number have other mainly minor faults, but most are in good collectable condition. The 1st photo shows, in our view, many of the strongest cards from this lot and the 2nd photo the first 16 cards in numbered order to give an idea about the overall quality.
