WW1 1st Bn Royal Highlanders Black Watch / Military Foot Police Military Medal Casualty Group of Medals.
Awarded to Sergeant James Christison Davie, who won the Military Medal and Croix de Guerre with the Black Watch and died in Iraq whilst serving with the Military Foot Police. Comprising: Military Medal, (2049 SJT J.C. DAVIE 1/R. HIGHRS), 1914 Star, with clasp (2049 PTE J DAVIE R HIGHRS), British War Medal, Victory Medal, MID Oak Leaf (2049 PTE J.C. DAVIE R HIGHRS), French Croix de Guerre. Group mounted for display with research. Military Medal London Gazette 11th February 1919 Mention in Despatches London Gazette 21st December 1917 French Croix de Guerre London Gazette 10th October 1918. Sergeant James Christison Davie a native of Montrose and pre war soldier landed with the 1st Bn Black Watch on the 13th August 1914, he is noted in a contemporary newspaper cutting as been wounded in the early part of the war, he was also officially reported wounded on the 12th December 1918. The MM is believed to have been awarded for gallantry during September 1918. He was discharged and awarded the Silver War Badge on the 10th April 1919. He then enlisted into the Military Foot Police, promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal and posted to Iraq, whilst on service he died on the 8th August 1920 and is remembered with Honour at Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery.
