The 1964 to 1967 FC Victor was marketed as the Victor 101, the name arising from the claim that there were '101 improvements' over the FB. Bench or separate front seating was offered, with three-speed column-change gearbox or the optional four-speed floor change. A 'Powerglide' two-speed automatic transmission was also available. An optional radio was incorporated into the bright-metal dashboard trim, an innovative styling cue, as was the incorporation of the side and indicator lamps in the front bumper. The sculpted bumpers were, for the first time in the UK, blended with the body styling. The overall look of the car was unique in GM, with its slab sides outlined with brightwork seam covers incorporating the door handles. The FC 101 was the last Victor to have a push rod engine.
The sporting VX 4/90 was developed from the FB series and offered an alloy head, higher compression ratio, twin-Zenith 34IV carburettors, stiffer suspension and additional instruments. Vauxhall took the VX4/90 seriously enough to offer an optional limited-slip differential, but few cars were ordered with it. Victor FC models had racked up 238,000 sales by late 1967 when the 'Coke bottle'-shaped FD replaced it.
The vendor tells us that this extremely rare VX 4/90 is in outstanding condition. These 60's Vauxhalls had a reputation for "rusting away before you very eyes", but this one does not appear to have any signs of corrosion at all. The car is absolutely standard and drives very well. It will be the subject of an article in Classic Car Weekly, which will appear very shortly.
The car comes with an original 1966 VX 4/90 sales brochure in mint condition, its original, stamped up 51,895 miles, Service Book. There is a large amount of History and Invoices going back many years. The Service History, MOT History, and condition of the car would suggest that the indicated mileage of just under 66,000 miles is correct. The paintwork is excellent, the interior is very good original, and the mechanical side of the car is as you would expect from a low mileage car from 1966. This an outstanding car, ordinary Vauxhall FCs in this condition are very rare, to find an FC VX 4/90, is almost beyond belief!
