Paul Garnier, an early Pendules Portative clock having an eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with an outside countwheel and fitted with Garnier's chaff-cutter escapement patented in 1830, the backplate stamped with the serial number 234, P.G. Breveté, and engraved Paul Garnier à Paris, mounted on a satin-wood scroll-shaped plinth and round base, with glass dome, height 18cm, with base, 23cm including dome. For a similar clock numbered 14 see Charles Allix & Peter Bonnert, Carriage Clocks, Their History & Development, p. 65, fig. 11/36. Various examples of this style of Garnier clock have been noted including signed by Raingo Fréres and Janvier.
