VOLTAIRE: 3 volumes in uniform bindings pub. 1808/9, Stereotypes d'Herhan, Paris, de l'imprimerie des Freres Mame. Firstly 'Contes en Vers, Satires et Poesies Melees', with 'Romans de Voltaire' first and second vols. Vol 2 is loose from text block at spine but is still bound to both boards (small restoration required). Very nicely bound in full morocco and gilt page-ends. Bookplates and signature of Charles E. Merrill junior and a pasted in piece from the auction catalogue from which they were purchased which helpfully tells us the books are illustrated 'with 33 very beautiful plates by Moreau le Jeune, all full page and fine impressions. Scarce.' Probably Merrill's pencil inscr. states: 'very beautiful copys (sic) on fine paper'.
