Four 19th century needlework samplers, comprising an Adam & Eve sampler, signed 'Lidia Weat Aged 13', undated, 12¼ x 7 5/8in. (31 x 19.5cm.); an alphabet sampler signed 'Ann Souter 1837', 9 1/8 x 7½in. (23.2 x 19cm.); a larger unsigned sampler with verse, flowers, crown and red hooked border, 12 x 16in. (30.5 x 40.5cm.); and an early 19th century sampler with alphabet, verse and bird, flower, crown and dog motifs, signed and dated indistinctly, 11¾ x 9 7/8in. (29.8 x 25cm.), faded, all in modern frames. (4) - Adam & Eve: Good overall - colour from the red wool has bled onto the pale ground. Slight damage to edge at top left corner and centre left margin. - Alphabet: Good overall. Small section of stitching missing from border at lower centre. - Hooked border sampler: Colour remain strong. Some spotted toning to pale ground throughout. - Small faded sampler: Colours faded and inscription difficult to decipher as a consequence.
