Rare Plate awarded to William Thorne of the Metropolitan Police force, the Wedgwood plate with signature of the artist on reverse, depicts Inspector William Thorne's warrant card, dated 1868, amongst flowers and a butterfly, 24.5 cm. A similar plate is held by the Metropolitan Police Museum and an accompanying letter from them gives details of William Thornes career. He joined the force in 1868 aged 20, and retired from the force in 1907.

Condition: Good, slight paint loss to some flowers, reverse marked 1347 and marked Wedgwood bone china signed J D P Pawsey 1891 T
with vase, Wedgwood, Etruria, England.
