The second incarnation of the Cortina was designed by Roy Haynes, and launched on 18 October 1966. The Cortina was Britain's most popular new car in 1967, achieving the goal that Ford had been trying to achieve since it set out to create the original Cortina back in 1962. Period reviews were favourable concerning both the styling and performance. Again, two-door and four-door saloons were offered with base, Deluxe, Super, GT and, later, 1600E trims available, but again, not across all body styles and engine options. A few months after the introduction of the saloon versions, a four-door estate was launched, released on the UK market on 15 February 1967.

For 1969, the Mark II range was given subtle revisions, with separate "FORD" block letters mounted on the bonnet and boot lids, a blacked out grille and chrome strips on top and below the taillights running the full width of the tail panel marking them out.

This Ford Cortina MkII is one of the rarest models, a 1600cc automatic. The vendor describes the car as being in wonderful condition, with original interior that is in lovely condition. The original carpet is little worn, even heel pad is original and not worn through. The dash is complete and in good condition with period smiths oil pressure gauge fitted underneath. The car has been fitted with rear seat belts quite some time ago, so perfect for rear passenger safety. The previous owner replaced all screen chrome trim and removed front screen and window channel is as new and un-repaired, as old spot welds visible and in perfect condition, no rust or even bubbling.

All panels look great with no rust in them. The car has new brake parts all round, including rear cylinders and rebuilt and painted front callipers. Also fitted a new track rod end to cure split boot. The vinyl roof is perfect with no signs of rust under it anywhere. The spare wheel has been repainted and a brand new tyre fitted.

There were no advisories on the last MOT, which runs to June 2016. The engine runs nicely and there are receipts for jobs done including a new camshaft, so it sounds very quiet and sweet. The head gasket has recently been replaced and flushed the system with all new gaskets etc and a new thermostat also.

The car comes with a large folder of bills and historic Cortina brochures, to include tax discs from 1981 onwards and lots of old MOTs. There is also the original sales receipt from new and the owners and service books for this car, original and in amazing condition, with the first owners details in them. The old log book is present, and lots of other bits and bobs. Overall a smashing original car that could be perfect with a tiny amount of TLC, but a stunner as it is. It has been kept in lovely condition from new.
