1985 Moto Guzzi Le Mans Mk IV, 948cc. Registration number C221 GDT. Frame number W11651. Engine number W11706.
Sold with the V5C, 2 keys, old MOT's many receipts, including a rebuild in 2001 at a cost of £5,580.
The Le Mans 1000 appeared at the end of 1984 and continued with minor modifications until 1992. The two main production runs were known as Series 1 and Series 2 but more commonly called the MK IV and MK V Le Mans. It had an increased capacity of 948 cc, bigger valves and compression ratio of 10.2:1, with uprated 40 mm pumper carbs and the B10 camshaft from the original Le Mans race kit. Commonly known as the 'Big Valve' engine, Moto Guzzi claimed 81 hp @ 7400 rpm.
The new bike was now physically longer, higher and larger than the 850cc predecessors but had improved ergonomics and increased performance thanks to the more powerful engine.
GDT was purchased by our vendors husband from Carnell of Doncaster on the 10th August 1985 for £3,489, receipt on file. Over the years it has received regular servicing, in 2001 it was subjected to a full restoration, including refreshing the engine, paint, cables, seals and bearings. In 2007 it again was painted. The last MOT took place in 2012 at 73,807 miles, today the odometer shows 73,848. It has been dry stored ever since and was recommissioned before coming into the saleroom, with a new battery, fluids changed and the carbs cleaned and balanced, it has been running recently.
