ROERICH (Nicholas) Himalayas. Abode of Light, 4to, col. frontis & tipped-in plates, cloth-backed boards, 1st Edition, Bombay, Nalanda, 1947PROVENANCE: by descent from John McGlashan (New-Zealand born, died aged 86, in 2021), renowned BBC (& then independent) CAMERAMAN. In the 1950's he worked with directors Ken Russell, John Schlesinger , and Ken Loach (among others) on the arts programme "Monitor." Further credits included "The Ascent of Man" (1973) and "The Shock of the New" (1980), and in the late 70s, TV shows such as "Porridge" and "Doctor Who." during Tom Baker's era. A highlight for John was working with the poet John Betjeman on "A Passion for Churches "(1974), "Metro-Land" (1973), and "Summoned by Bells" (1976). The two shared a love of churches, had other shared interests, and became firm friends. Betjeman occasionally referred to him, but lovingly, e.g. in his correspondence, as "the Bishop." Among John McGlashan's final work as an independent cameraman, were the popular TV shows "Monarch of the Glen," (Director of Photography 2003-2005) and several episodes of "Silent Witness."
