More Information

9879 - This Limited Edition by Wassily Kandinsky titled "Black and Violet, 1923" was published in an extremely small edition of only 20 copies. The quality of this limited edition is outstanding and in fabulous condition. It was printed on extremely high quality Bagasse/cotton paper with a weight of 300gsm. It will be supplied with a certificate of authenticity along with a replacement valuation certificate for £2000 (free of charge). Approx image size 60cm x 98cm. The composition bursts with blocks of colour and floating shapes, suspended in the negative space. Dividing the piece, a black oval sits to the left, while a violet quadrilateral dominates the right-hand side. Sinuous lines and abstract forms sing against the background. Two triangular sailboats can be seen sailing through calm lilac water, while the sinister cloud of an approaching storm encloses on a third. Kandinsky plays with scale and balance to create a powerful composition; a key theme in his work. The simple forms pave way for a deeper harmony in the work. To quote the artist, " everything starts from a dot". This expression, figuratively and literally, was a cornerstone of his creative process and can be felt in his dynamic artworks..
