A 1912 PATTERN NAMED WEST SOMERSET YEOMANRY SWORD BY WILKINSON OF PALL MALL.
A 1912 Pattern cavalry officers sword with a slender 89cm straight pointed fullered blade, decoratively etched with Royal Crown and monogram, the blade named to 'E.A. Hutchings West Somerset Yeo.ry' marked for Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London, the back 'London Made' and numbered 50886 suggesting a date of 1914-17, with a brass proof mark of the type put on 'best swords' from 1905 onwards. With a large broad plated hand guard with elaborate engraved decoration, the pommel of decorative oval stepped design, the grip with wire bound fish skin, with part leather sword knot. In a leather service scabbard, 112cm overall.
