19th century percussion cap rifle by J D Dougall of Glasgow, the tapering octagonal section barrel with blade fore sight and folding windowed rear sight, the mechanism with incised scroll ornament, mahogany stock with chequered sections, the butt having shield plaque inscribed 'Presented to Allan Kirkwood Esq by the Members of the 2nd Dumbartonshire Volunteer Rifles as a mark of the esteem in which they hold his personal worth and the valuable services he rendered that company during his connection with it as ensign 26th December 1864', without its ramrod, barrel length 76.5cm long, gun length 118cm long.

The action on the rifle works as expected. There is no significant damage to the stock. Any scratches etc are commensurate with use. Internal diameter of barrel measures 15mm. Condition of rifling is unknown.
