S. Mordan & Co, a Victorian coromandel wood and brass writing slope, retailed by Thomas Whipp of Rochdale, circa 1870, opening to reveal a fitted interior, the Bramah lock stamped Mordan, the underside of the slope inscribed Whipp, 35 x 25 x 11 cm.
Thomas Whipp was from a family of Rochadale clockmakers and retailers.
