Véra Rockline was a Russian-French post-impressionist painter. She first studied in the studio of Ilya Ivanovich Mashkov in Moscow. In 1918 she began training in the studio of Alexandra Alexandrovna Exter in Kiev. Exter, known to Pablo Picasso and Guillaume Apollinaire, had a great influence on Rockline's early style. In 1918 and 1919 she participated in the 14th Exhibition of the Moscow Artists' Association, and in 1922 in the Russian section of the Salon d'Automne and in the Salon des Tuleries. The journalist and critic Raymond Escholier praised her nudes. After beginnings under the influence of Cubism and Impressionism, Rockline found her own style, "somewhere between Courbet and Renoir," according to "L'Art et les Artistes." Admirers and patrons included Paul Poiret and the poet Charles Vildrac. The Russian exile and impressionist Sinaida Yevgenyevna Serebryakova, who lived in Paris, became a close friend of hers. Rediscovered not least as a result of an exhibition in 2002 in Montparnasse, "Elles de Montparnasse", where her works were shown together with works by Tamara de Lempicka, Marie Laurencin, Chana Orloff Sonia Delaunay and Nataliya Sergeyevna Goncharova.
