A Queen’s South Africa Medal without clasps named to: 5367 Pte A White Scottish Rifles. Private White served with the 2nd battalion of the Scottish Rifles in South Africa and was entitled to the clasps for Transvaal, Wittebergen and South Africa 1902. Because of the hugely complex task of compiling medal rolls for this campaign and arranging for the distribution of the medals and the many clasps, it
was not uncommon for the medals and the clasps to be issued to individuals separately, placing the onus for fixing the clasps to the medal onto the recipients. In some instances this was never actually done and the medals and clasps became separated, as in this case. This is nevertheless a fine example of the QSA 2 nd type
(Brittania pointing to ‘F’ in ‘Africa’) in Good Very Fine (GVF) condition, with attractive Light toning.
