1840 (July 31) 1d Envelope, stereo A170, used from Bakewell to Grantham, a red Maltese Cross applied to the right of Britannia with a matching Bakewell datestamp below and a Grantham backstamp. Redirected to "Board of Customs, London" with 1d paid in cash, shown by red manuscript "P1", again redirected to Lewisham Hill, Blackheath with a further 1d paid in cash, an indistinct two line Paid handstamp applied across Britannia with red "PD" datestamp (Aug. 3) alongside, a further tombstone type "PAID" datestamp in red applied upon arrival. A very unusual twice redirected Mulready with six handstamps all in red. Photo on Page 40.
