A Byzantine gold solidus of Leo 1st (457-474AD). Eastern Roman Empire. Constantinople mint. 19mm diameter. 4.43 grams. The obverse has the helmeted bust facing slightly right, holding spear and shield. DN LEO PERPET AVG. The reverse shows Victory standing left, holding voided long cross, star to right. Legend: Victoria AVGGA. CONOB (in exergue). Needs viewing to fully appreciate this stunning example.
