Cailly, A French ebonised lyre clock, the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with an outside countwheel, the backplate stamped with the name of the maker of the blanc roulant J.C. Cailly, and the retailer Cugghe a Paris, the silvered brass dial with black Roman numerals and blued steel moon hands, the ebonised lyre-shaped case with ormolu mounts and moulding, height 50cm. Biography The Cailly family were well-known blanc roulant makers working in the horological town of Saint-Nicolas d'Aliermont, with Jacques Cailly, born 1777, died 1850, being a fine carriage clock maker who founded the business in which most of the family then worked.
