A Georgian, hairwork, garnet and seed pearl mourning brooch/ pendant in memorium of Lady Harriet Acland of Killerton House, Devon, inscribed to verso: The Rt Honble Lady Harriet Acland died Friday 21 July 1815 aged 66', total length ca. 3.2cm, total weight ca. 6.6gms, accompanied by period case. Lady Harriet Acland was British aristocrat and diarist who was celebrated for her personal courage during the American War of Independence when she travelled through enemy lines to nurse her wounded husband. This incident is commemorated in bronze on the Saratoga monument in New York State.
