Arrival V and Collapse II form part of a series of unique screen prints, which explore personal and public histories in post-revolutionary Iran. Referencing the Ettelaat newspaper, Mehraban uses images and text that documented the 1979 Iranian civil war. In Arrival V, The viewer is confronted with a distorted image of Ruhollah Khomeni as he arrives in Tehran after 14 years of in exile. These artworks act as signifiers of public history, communicating the after-effects of Iran’s revolution. Mehraban reflects and focusses on the political impact the Iranian revolution has on the individual something often misrepresented or lost by the media. In this way Mehraban makes politics more human by drawing on the affected individual.
