Medieval Zoomorphic Mount. Circa 13th-14th century AD. Copper-alloy, 16.89g. 38.56 mm. A gilt bronze finial in the form of a stylised lion or dog standing right with a raised curled tail, its head turned out facing and looking up. The animal stands on a flat base thats attached to a round shaft that tappers flat to a point. Possibly a finial from a vessel, casket or staff. Ref: Egan, G. 1998. The Medieval Household Daily Living c.1150-c.1450. Medieval finds from Excavations in London.
