An unusual Anglo-Japanese inlaid mahogany standing corner cabinet, by Holland & Sons, c.1880, of stepped form with open galleried shelves and velvet lined recess over two Japanese cloisonné enamel panel inset doors, flanked by mirrors and a further recess bordered by lacquered panels over a central glazed door flanked by open shelves, raised on turned tapered feet and ormolu mounted throughout, Holland & Sons stamp, width 98cm, height 258cm

More Information

Honest but now slightly neglected condition, rather dirty and dusty, with some oxidisation of the ormolu mounts and a little fading in places, upper recess looks to have the original faded and rubbed velvet lining, central doors have small losses around the edges and probably a loss of an ormolu strip down the centre, they enclose a purple velvet lined interior which again looks original, lock to door is present but no key. Mirrors to either side are oxidised, lacquer panels are a little rubbed and faded, ormolu beading left centre has approximately 2 inches missing and a crack to the wood below, further ormolu beading on the right side has sprung away from the edge, a short section of foliate pattern ormolu missing mid left above the first recess, this has broken away but is still retained with the piece, lower mirrors equally oxidised and lower lacquer panels equally faded and rubbed, main door has original lock and working key, interior has a single fixed shelf and is lined in faded green velvet, Holland & Sons stamp to the top of the main door.
