JOHN SAUNDERS (1682 - c.1758) Portrait of a Lady, said to be Letitia Barrett, half-length, wearing a lace trimmed dress, signed and numbered '1884', with inscriptions on backboard, 'Letitia Barrett ', and, 'Sister of Arthur Vaughan of Trederwen.', pastel, 16 x 11 1/2 in Provenance. An inscription on a label with blue outline on the reverse states 'Miss.Disbrowe', presumably a later owner.
Letitia Barrett appears to have been born in 1732 in Oswestry , to Vaughan Barrett and Mary, nee Kynaston. She died in 1803.The exact relationship with Arthur Vaughan is unclear but Vaughan Barrett's mother was Elizabeth Vaughan (1674-1734) of Trederwen, so they were at least cousins.
