Star Lot: V. Meritt( English, b. 1850). An original antique oil on canvas painting. Depicts a charming riverside town, where thatched-roof cottages line the banks and men fish from a boat. The scene is rendered with precise brushstrokes, with occasional stippling effects on the greenery, adding texture. Slight loss of paint, discouloration and tear to canvas denoting age. Signed lower right. Housed in a simple wooden frame. Merritt's work has been offered at Christie's selling for £573.
MM: 67 x 48cm including frame.
V.Merritt was a British landscape painter. He exhibited work at the Tate Gallery and Royal Academy of Art's Diploma Gallery in London.
