A Japanese gold lacquer and coral comb, Edo period. Decorated with the sails from ships, volcanoes, cranes and pine trees, 4.5 x 10cm and a Japanese tortoisehell comb, Edo period, with gold lacquer and set with coral roundel,s decorated with birds and flowers, purchased from the Miriam Slater Collection, 3 x 9.5cm, a 1920's-1930's celluloid comb, 5 x 10cm and a gold lacquer comb, Meiji period, decorated with kite, drum and takamakie, set with four coral roundels, 3.5 x 9.8cm. (4) From the collection of Pat Johnstone, a Cornish artist and sculptor, who also had a passion for collecting Asian antiques and especially Japanese combs, kogai and kanzashi. Her collection has been curated for over 40 years and includes items from the Miriam Slater collection.
