A Royal Ulster Constabulary Service Medal, named to: R/Const A McClune (Reserve Constable). Mounted on presentation brooch pin and in Royal Mint case of issue, with original ribbon (before award of the George Cross to the RUC in 1999, after which the ribbon from 2001 included additional royal blue stripes at the edges).
During the IRA campaign from 1969 to 1998 a total of 299 serving RUC officers, of whom 100 were Reserve Constables, were murdered by terrorists in Northern Ireland (the first, Constable Victor Arbuckle, was actually killed by a UVF bullet). A further 20 were murdered after retiring or resigning from the RUC, of whom 13 were Reserve Constables.
