A SECOND WORLD WAR AND LATER GROUP OF SEVEN TO THE R.A.F. A group of seven comprising 1939-45, Atlantic, Africa (North Africa 1942-43 clasp), and Italy Stars, Defence and War Medal, all unnamed as issued, and a General Service Medal 1918-62 with Malaya clasp named to Flt Lt. H.J. Read R.A.F. Mounted Court style as worn. Harold James Read was born on the 14th August 1918 serving in the R.A.F. in the Second World War until retirement on the 1st January 1964. First commissioned as a Pilot Officer on the 17th January 1944 rising to the rank of Flight Lieutenant. he is recorded flying as a navigator with 500 (County of Kent) squadron and is recorded in the Operations Record Book on numerous occasions from April 1943 until May 1944 flying in Hudson and Ventura aircraft in various patrolling capacities, usually described in the logbook as 'U-Boat hunt'. Mounted for display with extensive copied research.
