Star Lot : A fabulous original oil on canvas painting by the artist Sofia Theodora Van Driel (b.1899 - d.1979) dating to the early 20th century. Features a beautiful still life study of scarlet dahlias in a porcelain vase. Wonderfully observed with great attention to light and shade. Rendered in highly textural brushstrokes adding dimension to the piece. Van Driel has an extensive oeuvre of still life studies, even working under a pseudonym Tilly Moes. Signed Fia Van Driel bottom right and housed in a vintage gilt frame with framer's sticker to verso.
